Jets cut Davante Adams, could Saints be interested in Derek Carr reunion?

Aaron Rodgers got what he wanted in a reunion with Davante Adams, but neither he nor the former Pro Bowl wide receiver are returning to the New York Jets in 2025. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jets are releasing Adams to save more than $29 million in salary cap space, making him a free agent. So could he reunite with one of his other former quarterbacks and join Derek Carr on the New Orleans Saints?

Never say never, but that doesn’t feel likely. It’s been consistently reported that Adams wants to play on a West Coast team (geographically, not schematically) so you’d think someone like the Los Angeles Chargers or San Francisco 49ers would make more sense. The 32-year old only appeared in 11 games with the Jets but still totaled 67 receptions and 854 yards, with seven touchdowns. Those numbers would have trailed Alvin Kamara’s 68 catches but led the Saints in every other category a year ago.

Still, there’s reason to think Adams could change his tune and come to New Orleans. Many of the things that appealed to him when he was seeking a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders last season are still true. He and Carr have been close friends since their college days together at Fresno State. His old position coach and longtime personal trainer Keith Williams is still on staff. The Saints don’t have another receiver with Adams’ skills, stature, or body of work. He could help them. The question is whether he’s still interested and whether the Saints would be willing to pay a competitive salary to get him.
